Keno Brothers New Collection

During High Point Market, Theodore Alexander is unveiling in conjunction with the Keno Brothers a new collection.  The Keno Brothers originally found fame on the Antiques Roadshow.  The collection boasts 40 pieces that offer traditional styling with modern charm.

Going Green DESIGINGreen

This week Gallery Six attending a seminar hosted by the Dallas Market Center.  The speaker was Jeff Hiller, president of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.  He is an accredited LEED-CI/AP.  The seminar was not the typical “tree-hugger” mentality.  It was in fact the opposite.  Mr. Hiller gave an entertaining and informative lecture.  The biggest message was that the design industry needs to open the door of discussion to their clients about the green movement.  He gave very interesting statics regarding changing out light bulbs and upgrading appliances or using antiques in your designs.  Mr. Hiller suggested that when discussing projects with clients to ask if they are interested with incorporating green in the design.  If the client is open to it, then pursue it.  If not, move on to the next topic in your design.

Being “green” does not always mean going in search for every sustainable product in the industry, but it does mean to take a closer look at what you are purchasing for your clients.

Habersham is made here in the United States which does not require using fossil fuels to transport across the ocean.

Wesley Allen utilizes as much of the metal as possible and then recycles what can not be used.

Theodore Alexander produces all of their products within their own facilities and does not outsource all over the world.  They also utilize reclaimed wood for their entire Castle Bromwich collection.  Each piece is individual due to the wear of the wood.

This week we have received in two new beautiful painting from Theodore Alexander.  A set of two paintings, each with a hand gilt background depicting a Japanese Magnolia painted sans traverse across the two panels. The original Japanese, circa 1900.   We have two in stock.  You don’t want to miss out on grabbing these for your project.

Making Technology Work for You

This week while I was browsing through Elle Decor’s new website, I came across a great article on specfically three downloads available.  Technology is a wonderful tool to incorporate in design.  With new apps available daily on itunes.com or your favorite site, it can be intimidating to try something new.  I encourage everyone to try the free apps first to get comfortable with using the technology.  Each download typically has a review that I have found very helpful.  With having a paint deck at your fingertips, it can really help on time as well as not having to take a color deck everywhere with you.  Take a look at the article and you may find a new tool that will help in your designs.

Dallas Market Center offers Sample Sale!

The 9th, 10th and 11th floors of the World Trade Center are joining forces for a Sample Sale.  It will begin Monday, October 26 and run through Tuesday, November 3.  The sale will be located at Showroom 11050 next to Undici restaurant.  The hours will be Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Approximately twenty-three showrooms will be participating.

Save the Date! IFDA Auction held at Gallery Six

Please join the International Furniture and Design Association, IFDA, on Thursday, October 29.  Gallery Six is pleased to host the IFDA’s 10th Annual Silent Auction.  Entertainment will include a live jazz band.  The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at our Turtle Creek showroom.  The proceeds will benefit the IFDA Foundation Scholarship and Elizabeth Brown Grants.  Save the date and join us for champagne and chocolate!

Summer Designs with METROCON

Join Gallery Six at our Turtle Creek location for the kick off party for METROCON 2009 on Wednesday, August 12th.  DG Publishing will also launch its new magazine during METROCON. For 15 years, Dallas-based DG Publishing Inc. has been publishing the Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin-San Antonio Design Guides, which cater to readers interested in architecture, design and construction. DG Commercial is a new title that the company will launch in October to help readers involved in planning and developing commercial spaces.
